If something is cool and has buttons or dials on it, it can probably be considered a gadget. Everybody knows that boys like their toys, but girls are certainly not left out of the gadget world either. Rampant Rabbit anyone…? And thanks to technology, a new gadget is unleashed on us every day of the year. Manufacturers are stumbling over each other to create the next big thing and the consumer public is being treated to a feast of innovation.

The options

The dictionary states that a gadget is 'a small specialised mechanical or electronic device. A contrivance.' And of course a contrivance is a clever device, so you can see the theme here. Lots of neat things are being devised, from portable beer fridges, to sounds systems, to glorious 42 inch plasma TV's. You can even get camcorders the size of your mobile phone, a mobile as thin as your wallet, and a wallet for your mobile - the opportunities are endless!

You can buy gadgets from many different places, from electrical stores to specific gadget shops. You type 'gadget' into your internet search engine and you'll get pages and pages of results. You don't need us to tell you that you're better off going through an established company. One that has reader reviews and provides well-known brands. There are plenty of them around, so if you have your eye on one particular gizmo, shop around to find the best price. And check whether the price includes delivery.

Any extras

Be aware that gadgets can often be completely useless! We don't mean useless like a talking beer bottle opener - that at least has some kind of function. Manufactures are known to throw something together for a quick sale without really thinking about practicality, usefulness or even customer satisfaction. Think moving figurines from movies, ones that don't really do anything but bear the all important movie branding. Something that kids will see the name and want one, but in reality, it will last five minutes and they'll be bored of it.
